“Roses are red, violets are blue, no plans for Valentine’s? No worries, Netflix has got you!” Premiering on 14 February, South African rom-com A Soweto Love Story follows three single brothers who must compete to the altar when their mother sets marriage as the only criteria to win the family home. If this sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve watched this story before in another Netflix film – A Naija Christmas released in 2021. It would seem that adaptations are here to stay, especially for successful stories that can be replicated in other regions.
