From the award-winning company ChemiChemi Players comes a brand-new play Bad Girls of the Bible, which will be staged at Daystar University Auditorium from 16 to 18 May.
Written by Yafesi Musoke and directed by Julisa Rowe, Bad Girls of the Bible follows seven infamous women from biblical tales as they unite for the ultimate reality game show: Bad Girls: Whatcha Gonna Do, For Real?
The play spotlights Jezebel, Mrs. Potiphar, Delilah, Mrs. Lot, Rahab, Sapphira, and The Woman at the Well, blending drama, humour, and faith into a unique theatrical experience. Is this their chance to finally set the record straight and redeem their reputations? Or will they be brutally exposed and have their haters proven right?
The cast features Mwajuma Belle, Kerry Kagiri, Lucy Kwe, Wakio Mzenge, Joyce Musoke, Ivy Esther, Nkatha Nkirote, Lucy Wache, Justin Karunguru and Mugambi Ikiara.
Founded in 2022 by Rowe, ChemiChemi players is a theatre company dedicated to Christian stage plays. “Transforming lives for Christ, one play at a time”, their mission reads.
“I love to do theatre that invigorates the audience and actors alike. Amid an industry that can have so much toxicity or a society with many challenges that drain life and joy, we choose plays that speak of hope or point people in the direction of God’s life-giving peace. In Swahili, the word “springs” translates to ‘ChemiChemi’,” Rowe said in a previous interview with Creating Understanding International.
Previous productions by the company include Pilate — which won Joyce Musoke Best Supporting Performance at the Kenya Theatre Awards — as well as Carnival Girl, which earned Rowe two Kenya Theatre Awards: Best Female Performance in a Solo and Monologue, Kings and Leaders, and Spread Your Garment Over Me.
