To kick off the year, catch Jennifer Lawrence as a woman hired to romance a wealthy couple’s awkward son in the comedy No Hard Feelings on 8 January. Sofia Vergara is Griselda Blanco, the notorious Colombian drug lord who built a cocaine empire in Miami, in Griselda dropping on 25 January. The crime drama is created by Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman.
On 12 January, Kevin Hart leads action-comedy Lift about an international heist crew racing to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane 40,000 feet in the air. Lift is part of Hart and Netflix’s multi-year deal that has already produced projects like Fatherhood, Man From Toronto, Me Time and True Story.
Edgar Wright’s 2021 time-bending psychological horror starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Last Night in Soho arrives on 26 January. Also catch popular Japanese anime The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse on 31 January.
Acclaimed Kenyan film The First Grader, first released in 2011, will also be available to stream from 18 January. Based on the life of Kimani Maruge, the biographical drama follows an 84-year-old Kenyan Mau Mau freedom fighter (played by Oliver Litondo) who takes advantage of the free education decree by the government to go back to school.
Also from Kenya, Foxton Productions’ Mpakani: The Story of The North drops on 10 January. The military drama series, directed by Victor Gatonye, follows six special forces soldiers posted in northern Kenya, as they hunt down a dangerous terrorist called Burhaan (played by Bilal Mwaura). Update: We have received new information that this title will no longer be launching on 10 January. A new date is yet to be communicated.

South African thriller Soon Comes Night, from Ochre Moving Pictures (behind Justice Served, Fatal Seduction and The Brave Ones) premieres on 19 January. The series follows a former freedom fighter who orchestrates a series of heists in defiance while trying to evade corrupt authorities and the police.
Catch Nigerian drama Adire on 12 January and comedy crime thriller Merry Men 3: Nemesis, starring Ramsey Nouah on 18 January.
