Disney has unveiled the teaser trailer for its upcoming African anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, a collection of 10 animated short films which marks Disney+’s first all-African original title.
The anthology is described as “an action-packed animated sci-fi anthology that presents ten futuristic visions from Africa, inspired by the continent’s diverse histories and cultures.”
First announced in 2021, Kizazi Moto is helmed by fourteen creators across Africa: Ng’endo Mukii (Kenya) – “Enkai”, Ahmed Teilab (Egypt) – “Stardust”, Simangaliso ‘Panda’ Sibaya and Malcolm Wope (South Africa) – “Mkhuzi: The Masked Racer”, Terence Maluleke and Isaac Mogajane (South Africa) – “Hatima”, Shofela Coker (Nigeria) – “Moremi”, Nthato Mokgata and Terence Neale (South Africa) – “Surf Sangoma”, Pious Nyenyewa and Tafadzwa Hove (Zimbabwe) – “Mukudzei”, Tshepo Moche (South Africa) – “First Totem Problems”, Raymond Malinga (Uganda) – “Herderboy”, and Lesego Vorster (South Africa) – “You Give Me Heart”.
The stars lending their voice to the highly ambitious anthology include British-Ugandan actress Florence Kasumba (Black Panther), Kehinde Bankole (Blood Sisters), Pearl Thusi (Queen Sono), Sheila Munyiva (Rafiki), Hakeem Kae-Kazeem (Hotel Rwanda), Stycie Waweru (Supa Modo), Candice Modiselle (Generations: The Legacy), Lillian Dube (Soul City), Clementine Mosimane (Poppie Nongena), Mandisa Nduna (Blood Psalms), Tumi Morake (Seriously Single), Sne Dladla (Black Tax) and Tyson Ngubeni (A Royal Surprise), and rappers Nasty C (Blood & Water) and Gigi Lamayne (Temptation Island: South Africa).
Kizazi Moto is executive-produced by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey, alongside Tendayi Nyeke and Anthony Silverston. South Africa’s Triggerfish will be the lead studio for the anthology, working in collaboration with animation studios across the continent and globally.
